Is lodging included in the registration fee? No.
Can family members travel with the learner? At the discretion of the learner.  As part of the learner application, the learner agrees to participate in all aspects of the course.
Can babies travel with the learner? At the discretion of the learner.  As part of the learner application, the learner agrees to participate in all aspects of the course.
Will accommodation be made for nursing mothers? Yes.
What meals are included in the course tuition? Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included each day. Group dinners will be planned on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings.
Where is the in-person course? Loews Ventana Canyon Resort Tucson, AZ

Research Topics

 

Will faculty assist in the development of a research topic? Yes.
Will faculty assist in the development of a research hypothesis? Yes.

Target attendees

 

 

Will only subspecialty fellows and junior faculty be invited to attend? Preference is given to fellows and junior faculty; more senior faculty will be considered if space permits and a compelling argument is made as to why this course will be beneficial to the applicant.
I prefer not to respond to race, gender, ethnicity questions on the application form.  Will I be excluded from an invitation? No, you will not be excluded from participation if you prefer not to respond to these questions.
Will SASGOG members get preferential treatment in the selection of learners? No.

Costs

 

 

What is the cost of tuition? $5,000.00
What is the cost of lodging? $249/ night (plus $15 resort fee, plus taxes).
Who is responsible for travel expenses? The learner is responsible for travel expenses.

Duration/scope of work

 

How much time will be required to prepare for the in-person course? How much time attendees put into reading course material and preparing research ideas in advance of the course will impact how much they get out of it. We recommend spending approximately 6 hours on reading and formulating ideas for research.
How much time will be required during the in-person portion of the course? Learners will participate in a late afternoon session on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.  Classroom sessions will be approximately 6 hours per day Tuesday – Friday, October 2-4. Saturday, October 5, 2024 will conclude at noon MT. The course work will begin with distance/virtual learning in September.

Who are the course faculty? Kristen Matteson, MD, MPH, Professor, Vice Chair of Academic Affairs, and Research Division Director, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UMass Chan Medical School
Emily DeFranco, DO, MS, Professor; Vice Chair of Obstetrics, Research and Faculty Development; Director, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
How will the course be managed/ supervised? The Course Directors report to the SASGOG President. The Course will be guided by input from the founding sponsor societies and the SASGOG Executive Committee.
Will the course be in-person or virtual? The Course will be multi-modal. Distance learning will be employed before and after the in-person phase of the Course. Learners will submit a project as part of the application process and the project will be developed as part of the Course.

Learners

 

 

Is the course only for academic specialists? All subspecialties are welcome.
How will the learners be selected? Fifty percent of the learners in each class will be awarded based on a merit-system/ rubric. Fifty percent of the learners will be awarded randomly. This methodology is intended to help us learn the best criteria for the selection of learners.
Who are target attendees for course? The target audience for the course is early career academic specialist faculty and subspecialty fellows.
Success How will the success of the course be measured? All learners will be asked to provide feedback throughout the Course. Additionally, learners will be asked to participate in long range polling about their career trajectories to facilitate measuring the success of the program.
